We are a welcoming, accessible, and supportive space where children (birth to six years of age) and their parents or caregivers can play and learn together through high-quality programs.

We offer a wide range of FREE, play- and inquiry-based learning experiences for families, including literacy activities, movement, artistic expression, music, and field trips.

Our centre is also a place to connect — an opportunity to meet and build meaningful relationships with other parents, caregivers, and young children in the community.

EarlyON programming supports healthy child development, provides parent education, and helps strengthen positive adult-child relationships.

Connect with qualified Early Years professionals trained in early childhood development can help families and caregivers find referrals to community services and resources, nutrition information, child development, and pre and post-natal resources.

Our Specialized Programs

Music and Mondays

Come join the L.E. Shore Library and EarlyON for a weekly “Music and Movement Mondays” program. We will meet in the library’s “Story’s Tower” to sing

action songs, rhyme, dance with scarves, tap on sticks and spoons, as well as experience musical instrument exploration and structured activities, like

story time. Our time together will promote physical development, cognitive skills, and emotional expression. No snacks please.

Little Artists

Children will have an opportunity to express themselves using various art mediums as they explore, be creative, and use their imaginations. Dress for a mess!

Our activities are designed to encourage confidence, creativity, and self-expression in a fun and supportive environment. Come ready to experiment, create, and enjoy the process of making something uniquely your own.

Outdoor Early Learning Playgroup

Instead of hibernating, get ready to embrace the season with a flurry of accessible and engaging activities that turn the Canadian wintery landscape into

our playground. We recommend that everyone dresses for the weather. In case of inclement weather, we will post any chances on our Facebook page

about one hour before the scheduled start time. Alternatively, our program will take place at the L.E. Shore Library.

Chat, Stroll or Skate

Let’s take a walk or glide around our community rink! Join us for some fresh air, light exercise, and a wonderful opportunity to connect with other families as we enjoy time on the ice together.

After skating, warm up with a cozy treat and continue the conversation off the ice. Strollers are welcome on the rink — we kindly ask that wheels are cleaned before going onto the ice.

This is a relaxed, family-friendly gathering for all skill levels, so come out, get moving, and enjoy a fun winter outing with your community.

Fun with Food

Little Chefs is a fun interactive experience to bond with your child, as they learn basic culinary skills, such and chopping, baking, all while gaining math, language, and hygiene knowledge.

It is also a great way to introduce new textures and flavours in a safe and engaging environment.

We will create and eat a simple and healthy recipe together. Space is limited so Pre-registration is required by emailing [email protected]

Little Scientists

Our program embraces a child’s natural curiosity and drive to observe, wonder, and discover the world around them.

Over the course of the morning, children will be encouraged to test their ideas and explore concepts through the exciting world of science using simple, hands-on experiments.

Bring your curiosity and get ready to ask questions, make discoveries, and have fun learning!

Early Learning Playgroup

It is a free inclusive program for families and caregivers with children from birth to six years old.

This environment provides a welcoming setting where you and your child can participate in play- and inquiry-based activities to support early learning and development.

You can meet people, make community connections, and receive advice from early childhood professionals. A table will be provided for families who wish to have their snack. Remember, we are allergy aware.

Toddlers Take Over the Library

Blue Mountain Library and EarlyON Thornbury bring monthly fun for little ones!

Enjoy stories, creative activities, music, movement, and activity stations—all designed to spark curiosity and joyful exploration.

Parents and caregivers are welcome to join in, connect with other families, and share in the fun. It’s a wonderful opportunity to build community, foster early learning, and create lasting memories together.

Baby & Me

Did you have a baby recently? Are you looking to connect with other parents / caregivers to talk about your experience? In a safe and nurturing environment, learn and play together with your baby (0-12 months) while connecting with other families and caregivers through sensory play, songs, rhyming, conversations, special guests, and other activities.

EarlyON is here to support you in finding parenting information, resources, and referrals too.

We meet inside the “Story Tower” inside the L.E. Shore Library.

Baby Depot

We are excited to offer free essential baby items—including diapers, soothers, specialty detergent, and more.

All families are warmly invited to join us every Wednesday to pick up these essential items and connect with other families in a welcoming, friendly environment.

You Can Help!

Donate funds, donate food, organize a food drive, or drop off needed items to support our Emergency Services.

Why Donate

Local families are able to access our emergency food cubby, clothing & household items, and fresh fruit and vegetables throughout the year. A parent receives recreational funding to help enroll their child in organized hockey/dance or other activities of their choice. Children of local families receive quality childcare right in their own community. Seniors and caregivers benefit from important information and resources available to maximize their quality of life.

For over 35 years, BVO and its many volunteers have been working hard to enhance the lives of people in The Blue Mountains, from infants to seniors, with quality programs and services. While proceeds from our Treasure Shop sales and government funding go a long way to fund BVO’s good work, financial support from the community is always needed. People give for different reasons and in different ways: to support a cause that is important to them and make an impact in their community; to ensure that their memory lives on in a meaningful way; to help reduce taxes while supporting charitable causes that align with their values. Some hold 3rd party fundraisers, where they participate in an engaging event while having fun and raising money that will help locals in our community when times are tough.

There are many ways in which you can support BVO, both now and in the future. Please consider giving to BVO to help us continue “making good things happen in our community”.
